[fusion_text]With a population of almost 650,000, Oklahoma City is the largest city in the State of Oklahoma. This city, whose metropolitan area is home to the most tornadoes in the world, is also one of the largest livestock markets in the world. Natural gas, oil, and petroleum, are big industries in this plains state, also. When the residents are not busy working, they love to play with their furry friends.

Dogs and dog parks are popular in Oklahoma City. There is PawPark, Myriad Botanical Gardens Dog Park, Wiggly Field Dog Park at Ray Trent Park, Pets & People Dog Park, and Fred Quinn Happy Tails Dog Park – and that is only a few of them. They are everywhere! Places for the dogs to get out and run, meet other furry friends, and just plain enjoy the outdoors.

[/fusion_text][separator style_type=”none” top_margin=”” bottom_margin=”” sep_color=”” border_size=”” icon=”” icon_circle=”” icon_circle_color=”” width=”” alignment=”” class=”” id=””][fusion_text]What makes the best and most efficient dog park?

  • First and foremost, you will need fencing. This benefits the dogs by allowing them to run free without being restrained by a leash. It also benefits those passing by so they do not have to come in contact with dogs they are unfamiliar with. This fence will need to be at least five feet high to prevent any dogs from jumping over. Double fencing will allow the dog owners to enjoy themselves outside of the dog playground – you can sit on a bench and relax with your guard down while your furry friend hangs out with his other furry friends.
  • Dog parks need grass. Dirt can get muddy when wet and it can be too enticing to start a digging project. And besides – who would want to go to a concrete park? When it comes to grass, however, too much dog urine can leave it brown and ugly. Artificial turf can provide the perfect flooring for a dog park. It looks and feels like grass (the dogs will never know it isn’t real), but it doesn’t need to be mowed and won’t die when it is drowned in dog urine. In fact, artificial grass remains bright green and fresh looking and can be cleaned to ensure there are no health safety issues!
  • There is a need for running water. You will need to make sure that a constant supply of water is available. Community water bowls will work, as well as providing the opportunity for dog owners to bring their own (hey, some dogs are just particular!) Either way, running around and playing leads to thirst so this is a must!
  • Waste pickup stations are important. There should be an excess supply of these stations, making it easier for dog owners to pick up after their pets. The more convenient they are, the more likely owners are apt to use them!
  • Whatever you do, don’t use wood! Whether on benches for seating or within the dog play area, you do not want to use wood. Dogs love to mark their territory or leave a little something behind for the next person by lifting their leg. Wood (and other absorbing material) can withhold the scent of the urine, making for a potentially smelly situation.
  • Always make sure to list rules – you want everyone who visits to know how to work the double gates, how to handle situations with dog fighting, and that it is imperative to clean up after the dogs! Make it visible!
